Many Schemmer employees are actively involved in volunteering opportunities throughout the year. Recently, Schemmer participated in a Habitat for Humanity build on Saturday, October 25th in the North Omaha metro area. This was a Schemmer sponsored event, and included 12 of our volunteer employees to assist with Habitat Omaha’s goal of building 50 newly constructed and renovated homes. The day started out with a brief introduction about Habitat, as well as instructions for the day’s work. Volunteers were involved in a number of tasks from installing windows and siding to weather sealing and painting. Along with Habitat’s mission of building homes, “changing the systems, policies, attitudes and behaviors that lead to inadequate housing and homelessness are just as important,” according to Habitat Omaha’s website. Habitat focuses their efforts in North Omaha because “six out of 10 children are living in poverty, and the problem is growing even faster during these times of economic uncertainties.” Schemmer had a great time serving families in need in our community, and is looking forward to the next opportunity to lend our services because we believe, that each small effort adds up to make a big difference.
