Schemmer was selected to complete a three-story addition to the 51-unit senior living apartment building, Millard Manor, in Omaha, Nebraska. The addition consists of eight one-bedroom units, a community space, library, storm shelter and laundry facilities. The 1600 SF multipurpose Community Room will provide gathering space to support resident service programs. It will include computers and a serving kitchen as well as an adjacent covered porch.
Eight efficiency units and eight one-bedroom units in the existing building will be converted into eight, one-bedroom apartments that have dens. An automatic fire sprinkler system will be added throughout the existing building, bringing it into code-compliance. Additional improvements include: new windows and siding, carpet, kitchen cabinets and appliances. An electronic security system at exterior doors will be provided for the entire facility.
Schemmer incorportated green standards that included: Energy Star appliances, low VOC paints and finishes, windows with a maximum R-value of .35 and exterior lighting controlled by photocells. In addition, the general contractor is following a waste reduction, recycle and reuse plan over the course of construction.
