A complete transformation will take place when Schemmer completes the renovation and addition to the existing three-story middle school. The addition includes a gymnasium with spectator seating for 700, locker rooms, wrestling, weights, commons, cafeteria and kitchen. The existing air handling systems will be replaced by a geothermal heat pump system to utilize the earth's heat energy to heat and cool the entire school. New energy recovery ventilation units provide the necessary fresh air for improved indoor air quality while also recovering the energy from exhaust air to preheat/pre-cool the ventilation air. In addition to the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) strategies, reduced water-use plumbing fixtures will replace existing high water-use fixtures. This project is still currently under construction.
