Essex Lied Public Library

Schemmer was selected to design the new 5,000 SF library in downtown Essex, Iowa. The building form, with its high clerestory windows, provides natural light into the heart of the library. The exposed wood trusses and spatial volume gives the structure the public importance and appropriateness of scale that a public library deserves. The library plan provides for a 30% future growth of stack space within the new structure. The open plan provides for flexibility and easy segregation of the children's area from the adult reading areas.
