Schemmer was retained to assess the Kaplan facilities in Lincoln and develop the master plan for the expanding campus that is two blocks from the Nebraska State Capitol. The master plan involved the demolition of the four-story dorm building and the wood-framed addition to the education building. New multiphase construction included a 20,000 SF, two-story education addition, along with renovation of the existing 20,000 SF education building. Sitework involved doubling the parking facilities and adding exterior plazas and landscaping, with the possible inclusion of a parking garage. A dynamic two-story glass atrium links the existing and new structure, including a connector bridge with gathering space spanning the atrium at the second level. The design presents a significant focal point where Capitol Parkway meets the new Antelope Valley greenway.
