The Schemmer Associates, in association with nationally noted art facility design consultants Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates, developed the programming, design and construction of UNO's new 78,000 SF building for the arts. Throughout the programming phase, Schemmer coordinated extensive interview sessions resulting in a 600-page program statement. Three separate sites on campus were considered. An extensive analysis was made of all sites including utilities, circulation, parking, access, development costs and other criteria. The building contains several features for the different areas of artistic performance and art education including:

  • Experimental Theater: seats 250 with staging and seating flexibility
  • Art Gallery: two main spaces for exhibition and viewing
  • Design, Drawing and Printing Labs
  • Dramatic Arts Departments: dressing rooms, costume shop, acting lab, scene and costume shop
  • Fine Arts Press and Book Production Department
  • Offices, Classrooms and a Painting Lab
