Fort Calhoun Trail

Fort Calhoun, Nebraska

Client:
City of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska

Schemmer, serving as City Engineers for the City of Fort Calhoun, assisted the City in developing their comprehensive plan and a master plan for a community trail system. The project consists of a half-mile trail along the southern city limits that connects Highway 75 with the Lions Baseball Complex and Fort Atkinson State Park. This is the initial link in a trail that will ultimately connect Highway 75 with Boyer Chute and the Missouri River Trail to the Omaha Riverfront.

Schemmer wrote grant applications and prepared conceptual plans and cost estimates for the TEP Funding administered by NDOR. The grant was awarded in 2004 and Schemmer started immediately with design and right-of-way determination.

A 150-ft. pedestrian bridge was incorporated into the design to span a deep ravine cut into the wooded Missouri River Bluff.
