Schemmer was selected by Douglas County to design improvements to a two-lane northern section of 72nd Street, a major Omaha and Douglas County arterial. The 1.48-mile improvement is a five-lane urban section with storm sewer, turn bays, lighting, and an 8-foot wide walking/bike path. The upgrade, from Interstate 680 north to Nebraska Highway 36, was based on traffic projections of 25,000 vehicles per day by 2025.

Schemmer performed an environmental assessment, coordinating with multiple agencies:

• air and noise impacts
• wetlands delineation and mitigation
• investigation of impacts on historic tribal resources and former Omaha Air Force Station property.
