City of Lincoln, Nebraska

The City of Lincoln retained Schemmer to design a replacement for the aging O Street viaduct. Schemmer design services included topographic survey, public participation, traffic engineering, bridge engineering, roadway design and Section 106 Environmental Historic Review and a final report. The new structure supports four lanes of traffic, a 4-foot raised median and a 10-foot clear bicycle/pedestrian trail. The typical cross-section consisted of six beams, spaced 12 feet center to center. Two deck expansion joints were incorporated into the bridge. A turn lane was integrated into the bridge for approximately 540-feet at the east end. Other design elements included parking lot design, approach roadway design, lighting design and landscaping design.

  • 1,886 feet long
