Wozny Awarded National SAME Gold Medal

Mr. Roger J. Wozny, P.E., FSAME, LEED® AP, at the 2006 National Joint Engineering Education and Training Conference in New Orleans May 31, was awarded the Society of American Military Engineer’s Walter O. Bachus Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedicated service. One Gold Medal, the Society's highest award, is given annually and was first presented in 1920. The Society, with over 29,000 members worldwide, promotes and facilitates engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public and private sector engineers, and related professionals.

Criteria for this award include outstanding leadership and accomplishments in support of the Society mission over ones entire period of membership in the Society. For over thirty-two years, Roger Wozny has contributed to SAME, both individually and through Schemmer, Inc., the Society’s 1992 J. W. Morris National Sustaining Member Award recipient. Most recently, Mr. Wozny was Chair, National Academy of Fellows immediately after being elected and serving as National President, one of only six civilian members to be elected to this position in the Society’s eighty-six year history. Mr. Wozny served as The Society’s National President during the terrorist attacks of 2001, and maintained continuity of SAME affairs while the Military Service Chiefs attended to mission critical duties and activities. Representing The Society, Mr. Wozny signed the charter of The Infrastructure Security Partnership, in March 2002. During his career, he has held over twenty five elective and appointive volunteer offices or positions in SAME. Mr. Wozny’s leadership, dedication and service to The Society are in keeping with the highest traditions of The Society of American Military Engineers.

Mr. Wozny is immediate past chairman of Schemmer, a registered professional engineer in 22 states and a LEED Accredited Professional. Mr. Wozny has extensive experience in planning, programming, administration and management of multi-use and technical facilities. He has provided senior design critiques on Department of Defense projects and has participated on quality control review panels. Mr. Wozny works closely with the firm's, national federal, defense and health care clients.
