The Baright Solarium additions to the Cavanaugh Center wing of the Douglas County Health Center have transformed the existing institutional dining rooms for Alzheimer’s and long term care patients into bright and vibrant living and recreational spaces. The completed project adds 5,000 SF housed in two, new, two-story wings each containing a 1,000 SF sunroom on the upper level. The West addition lower level holds an exercise room for resident use, while the East addition lower level contains a third sunroom and a 1,000 SF basement used for facility storage. The exterior aesthetic of the new additions complements the existing building, while still employing modern touches including expansive windows to take full advantage of the southern exposure, garden views and aluminum louvered sunshades to help maintain the energy efficiency of the additions, which were also designed to be connected to the Center’s roof rainwater waste collection system.
