Randy Rees, RA
I was born in Topeka, Kansas, but raised all over – military brat. I have lived in too many places to name from Colorado to Florida and everything in between, rural to big city.
I lived in Spain, Denmark, Poland, Italy, some as long as three years and as short as three months. I can’t say I really disliked any place (I have fun wherever I’m at and enjoy the culture and surroundings) other than a tent in the desert or jungle (those were pretty uncomfortable, still we figured out some way to have fun). My wife and I currently reside in Underwood, Iowa. We enjoy visiting our children in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
During my years in the military, l truly learned what leadership is and how to be part of a team. The military experience is unique and gives a person so many opportunities, but being part of a group/organization that shares in common ups and downs – camaraderie – is something total unique to the military. You carry those experiences with you forever no matter where life takes you personally and professionally.
I have taken what I have learned in the military about leadership and teamwork with me into my professional life. When there is teamwork and collaboration, great things can be achieved. I have enjoyed many aspects of my job throughout the years, but currently I strive to produce work that stands the test of time (good solid architecture that isn’t stylized or eclectic and can’t be dated), and working/mentoring the younger generation. They are more talented and driven to be the best they can be, while having fun doing it.
I have been fortunate in life to chase my dreams from flying satellites, building the impossible with nothing, traveling the world and still have a family to come home to.
