Schemmer Celebrates Professional Engineers Day!

Celebrate Professional Engineers Day! SchemmerCelebrate Professional Engineers Day

On Wednesday, August 5, Professional Engineers (PE) across the country will celebrate PE Day. Starting in 2016, this annual celebration aims to promote the positive impact professional engineers continue to make on both a local and national scale.

The History of Professional Engineers Day

PE Day is celebrated in August specifically because on August 8, 1907, the first professional engineering license was issued to Charles Bellamy in Wyoming. Since then, licensure has grown and professional engineers across the United States have made a commitment to protect public:

  • health,
  • safety and
  • welfare.

Past NSPE President, Tim Austin, PE, FNSPE, started PE Day because he felt that although Engineers Week and MATHCOUNTS effectively promoted engineering, there was a lack of recognition for those that are licensed professional engineers. Therefore PE Day was created to raise awareness about:

  • what it means to be a PE,
  • recognize licensed PEs and
  • show appreciation for the work they do each and every day.

At Schemmer, we are proud to have 26 talented and hardworking PE's on our team and wish them all a Happy PE Day!
