Lied Platte River Bridge Reopening Event

Schemmer’s Shane Swope, PE, Transportation Manager, and Bart Pugh, CPSM, participated in the Lied Platte River Bridge Reopening Event and Ride from Springfield to the Lied Bridge near South Bend, Nebraska. Accompanying them along on the ride was Metropolitan Area Planning Agency’s Mike Helgerson.

Lied Platte River Bridge
This project was done through the collaboration of the Papio/Missouri River NRD and Lower Platte South NRD and Nebraska Game and Parks. You can see more about this project here.

The bridge connects up with the Great American Rail-Trail through Nebraska, so reconstruction of the bridge was critical importance because it provides a regional connection to 120 miles of trail on the west and over 100 miles on the east.

There was months of:

  • Planning
  • Design
  • Repair

The bridge was reopened to the public on July 2, 2021.

Schemmer Provided:

  • Rehabilitation Design
  • Bid Services
  • Project Oversight for the bridge’s superstructure and substructure damaged by Nebraska’s historic ravaging 2019 flood
