When Pat Birch, Schemmer’s Higher Education and Multifamily Housing Market Leader, was asked what is the most important personal attribute she brings to the job she answered, "I care." When asked what motivates her to succeed she answered, "Her parents and happy clients." When asked what is the coolest thing she's working on right now she can't single out a project because she considers them all equally enjoyable. You could say she is truly a genuine, passionate and hardworking individual.
A Leap of Faith
Pat grew up in Omaha (but was born in Lincoln and lived there until the age of three) and after receiving her Master of Architecture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, she took a leap of faith and flew to Boston for an interview for an architectural design job, found an apartment over the weekend, took the job and moved two weeks later, knowing no one there. Eventually, Pat returned to her roots in Nebraska and has been with Schemmer for 12 years. With 37 years of experience under her belt, she is now a shareholder for Schemmer, senior architect, and the Higher Education and Multifamily Housing Market leader.

Pat's favorite thing about the Higher Education Market is how each project is unique and she's able to get glimpses into the wonderful things happening at universities and colleges. She especially appreciates the complexities and diversity of projects she's worked on.
When it comes to multifamily housing she explains, “We are faced with exploring how we live or how we might live in the future. Demographic shifts, social and economic shifts all play an important role in the approach to design. This fascinates me. It’s why every time we are hired for a multifamily project; affordable or market-rate housing, adaptive reuse or new construction; I get excited about the challenge of defining living spaces."
Pat believes Schemmer's implementation of new technology sets us apart from the rest. "Our innovation in technology such as 3-D scanning, drone scanning/mapping, generative design, virtual reality and augmented reality. Rather all amazing, I think."
