Introducing Schemmer's new blog about our professionals, People Creating Places. At Schemmer, our people are architects, engineers, and construction field services specialists. They are creating construction plans and oversite of buildings, roadways, bridges, sewers, and utilities, all with the goal of creating a sense of place in the built environment.
The word place is used to describe a specific location, such as a place on a map, a physical environment, a building or locality of special significance, or a particular region or location.

Kicking off this new series is John Bloom. John is an architect in our Des Moines office. His credentials include:

What kind of projects do you work on?
"I work on a lot of different project types, anywhere from historic preservation, senior living, multi-family housing, even to deferred maintenance projects."
Who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
"I remember being in high school, I was a very good drawer. I thought I was a creative person. At the same time, I thought I was a fairly practical person. I thought with the creativity and practicality, I thought architecture would be a good fit for those two sort of talent sets."
