Schemmer worked closely with The City of Norfolk, NE on The Benjamin Avenue Improvements Project. The pavement on the stretch of Benjamin Avenue from 1st Street to 13th Street had deteriorated over time. Our design included the complete reconstruction of the roadway to not only replace the pavement, but to also widen Benjamin Avenue to add middle turn lanes. These new turn lanes will help mitigate another problem which was a high crash rate due to the lack of turn lanes and an abundance of access points.
Other components of the design include new curbs and gutters, storm sewers, widened pedestrian sidewalks, enhanced landscaping/streetscaping and new street lighting. After significant coordination regarding utilities, many power lines are being buried to help with further beautification of Benjamin Avenue.
