Schemmer was retained to renovate Goldbeck Towers, located at the Good Samaritan Society’s Hastings Village campus. Built in 1971 with funding from HUD, it is a four-story building with 104 one- and two-bedroom units with common spaces for low-income seniors. Services included an assessment of existing mechanical, electrical and life safety systems, proposals for improvements, the remodel of first level spaces for accessibility and improved resident services including a new community room. On each floor level, two-bedroom units were remodeled into one-bedroom accessible apartments. A new drop-off entry drive was built to provide site accessibility and better accommodation of emergency vehicles. A wheelchair accessible community garden was also incorporated.
