Project Details

Schemmer provided architectural and engineering services for a Facility Assessment, Master Plan and Design at the Iowa Veterans Home (IVH). Our services addressed evaluating the existing 90-acre site in Marshalltown, Iowa, with direct study of five buildings totaling 551,500 SF, and a total of 678,800 SF of buildings on campus. The campus serves 750 veterans and qualifying family members. The implementation plan consisted of four phases totaling $99 million, assisted by the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs State Home Construction Grants Program.

Schemmer’s involvement on the implementation plan included design and construction phase services of two structures providing IVH residents with homelike environments that cluster the units around common living room, dining room and kitchen areas; a new 60-bed skilled nursing facility that was comprised of two, 30-unit households; a new Main Entry building, providing the campus a new welcome center for visitors; and the re-purposing and remodel of nearly 97,000 SF of space in the Sheeler Hall.
