Schemmer was initially retained to assess the existing facilities in Lincoln and develop the master plan for the expanding campus. The master plan involved the demolition of the four-story dorm building and the wood-framed addition to the education building. New construction included a 20,000 SF, two-story education addition and a complete renovation of the existing 20,000 SF education building – in multiple phases. The site work involved doubling the parking facilities, additional exterior plazas and landscaping, and possible inclusion of a parking garage. Schemmer was then retained to design the expansion/renovation project. A dynamic two-story glass atrium links the existing and new structure, including a connector bridge with gathering space spanning the atrium at the second level.
