Project Details
Schemmer was selected to design the reconstruction and widening of S. 40th Street from Rokeby Road to Yankee Hill Road. The project is being developed into two separate bid packages to accommodate development in the area as well as providing access for adjacent property owners. Phase 1 will improve the intersection of S. 40th Street and Rokeby Road by constructing a single lane roundabout which will be expandable into a multi-lane roundabout as future traffic warrants. Phase 1 will also extend Rokeby Road east of S. 40th Street for approximately 1/4 mile and include a new 16" watermain to provide a looped watermain system to the adjacent development.
Phase 2 will improve the remainder of S. 40th Street from Rokeby Road north to Yankee Hill Road for approximately 3/4 mile. A floodplain analysis was conducted for five drainage crossings of S. 40th Street as well as Rokeby Road. This floodplain analysis resulted in design of three multi-cell box culverts and one three-span concrete slab bridge in order to adhere to floodplain regulation.
Minimization of wetland impacts along with significant coordination with the Corps of Engineers was required to obtain the 404 permit. In addition, due to the developing nature of the adjacent property, extensive coordination with private utility companies was conducted in order to modify and expand their services to adjacent development.
The two phases of the project were coordinated with four other capital improvement projects adjacent to the 40th Street corridor.
