Schemmer’s was retained to provide a skilled dining expansion to the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Our team conducted a BIM solar and energy study to understand and quantify the amount of the sun’s energy on the site and building. The study helped direct the design to replace an existing enclosed porch at the east end of the skilled nursing wing, which was attached to the existing dining room. The newly expanded climate-controlled dining room doubles as an activity space and the new porch allows residents to enjoy the outdoors while being protected from the sun throughout the majority of the day.
