Schemmer provided the design (architectural, electrical, mechanical, and asbestos abatement) and construction administration for a Women’s Clinic and Bathroom remodel within the main hospital building on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Des Moines campus. The clinic consisted of exam rooms, provider office, waiting area, training area and restroom.
In addition, six existing bathrooms were enlarged and reconfigured in order to bring them into compliance with ADA and hospital standards.
Careful coordination was required among disciplines in order to get all of the plumbing, mechanical, and electrical fixtures to fit within tight spaces, while maintaining required ADA clearances. Construction Phasing was another major contribution to the success of this project. The phasing plans allowed the construction work to be done efficiently while minimizing disruptions to the remainder of the facility and campus.
