Schemmer had the pleasure of hosting students from the Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC) Intern Program today in our Omaha office. Schemmer's Shane Swope, PE, gave a presentation on Schemmer's history, an overview of the rewards and challenges of consulting and civil engineering and the different disciplines. As well as various types of transportation projects and clients. Following the presentation the students were able to tour the office and have lunch.
The MATC Intern Program students were also touring Union Pacific Harriman Dispatching Center, the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency and the City of Omaha Public Works Department.
Founded at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, the MATC Intern Program offers one-of-a-kind real-world experiences in transportation to exceptional undergraduate students. The program has expanded to now include consortium members across Region VII. Students are able to work on projects with private consultants, public agencies or university researchers.
