At Schemmer, a full-service architecture, engineering, and construction field services consultant, we aren’t just about designing buildings, roadways, and communities – we're about building brighter futures. Through our initiative, Schemmer Gives Back, we dedicate our expertise to non-profit organizations in need.
Schemmer Gives Back Selects HETRA:
This year, we chose HETRA, a Gretna, Nebraska nonprofit specializing in equine therapy.
"We're excited!" says Ryan Bell, a Civil Engineer at Schemmer working on the project. "HETRA is a fantastic organization, and this will have a real impact on our community."
HETRA's mission is truly inspiring. They work with adults and children of all abilities, providing therapeutic activities with horses as part of their treatment plans. Their clients range in age from two to 92, demonstrating their commitment to serving the entire community. The impact of their work stretches far and wide, with participants traveling from 20 counties in Nebraska and Iowa to receive HETRA's equine therapy services.
HETRA offers a variety of therapies alongside their equine program including occupational, physical, mental health, and speech therapy. They also have a team of nationally certified therapeutic riding instructors, providing a unique and impactful service to their participants.
Due to the rising demand for their services, HETRA is facing the possibility of a waiting list. This is a major concern for the organization, as Edye Godden, CEO of HETRA, says, "we don't want to have to tell you I can't see your child for six months because we have a waiting list."
Schemmer's grant will directly address this growing need. The Omaha community faces a significant shortage of therapy services, particularly mental health services. HETRA's expansion will allow them to serve more clients and provide much-needed mental health resources in a private setting, all while continuing their impactful equine therapy programs.
"Programs like Schemmer Gives Back are truly invaluable," says Godden. "This will allow us to take the next step and provide critical services to even more people in need. There's a big need here in the Omaha community for services, especially mental health services,' she added."
