Schemmer's Young Professionals (SYP) organized a Football Squares Game for the 2018 Nebraska Husker football season. Each week, the Football Squares Game winner put their favorite charity in a drawing for a chance to donate $1,000 at the end of the season. Schemmer’s Dan Kerns, AIA, and his charity, The Nebraska Humane Society (NHS), were the fundraiser winner. On December 18, Dan and Kyle Schicker, Schemmer SYP Member, met with Gordon Krentz, Special Events Manager of NHS, who graciously accepted the donation.
The NHS is unique among animal shelters. In addition to taking animals whose owners can no longer care for them, they provide animal control services for the Omaha metro area. They are the facility that houses all animals with nowhere else to go. NHS doesn’t pick and choose who enters. Instead, they offer clean kennels, warm beds, loving hearts and kind hands to every abandoned, stray and lost animal who arrives at their door.
