Encouraging a culture of "work and play" is important and finding the right balance is what Schemmer Young Professionals (SYP) are set out to do. However, when it comes to "play" you never know what you are going to get at Schemmer. A fierce homemade soup competition could be going down, a local trail clean-up or a heated game of bags at an outdoor office barbeque, activities run the gamut thanks to the SYP group, who host many activities throughout the year for our young professionals and all Schemmer employees.
Schemmer Young Professionals & SYP Board
Forty-three percent of Schemmer’s employees are 40 and under and span three generations:
- Generation X
- Millennials
- Generation Z
With all this multigenerational mingling, SYP needs a few fearless leaders... that’s where the SYP board comes in. The board is elected annually by SYP members and consists of a:
- President
- Vice President (President-Elect)
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- General Members
General Board Members
The general members are organized into four committees:
- cultural
- social
- networking/professional development
- volunteer
This group is charged with:
- hosting social events inside and outside of the office
- organizing volunteer efforts within the community
- ensuring members are aware of local professional development opportunities
- working closely alongside Schemmer’s Engagement Committee to plan company-wide events

"I love the comradery SYP activities have built within the Company. We don’t get a chance to work closely with all departments at Schemmer and the planned activities are a great way to get everyone involved and get to know them on a more personal level.
One of my favorite SYP activities is the summer lake house retreat. It's a weekend get together that includes staff from other offices and we participate in fun team building activities," said SYP Member, Josh Murphy.
