Schemmer’s Integrated Design Process

Imagine a bee hive bustling with honeybees. Buzzing about, in and out of the hive, each one with a specialized job. Some are charged with cleaning the hive, others take care of the larvae, while others are designated to gather nectar to make honey. Collectively, all working together in unison towards a shared common goal.

Integrated Design Process

Schemmer’s Integrated Design Process is a highly collaborative process that resides under one roof, applying the same teamwork principles as our bee friends, working together to ensure a client’s vision and goal become a reality.

As a full-service architecture, engineering and construction field services firm, we offer a dozen different design and engineering disciplines. A lot of consulting firms throw around the term full-service design because they offer more than one design discipline. However, these disciplines functioning in isolation will provide nothing different than if they were subconsulted out to other firms.

Schemmer’s Integrated Design Process engages all in-house disciplines early and often, establishing solutions and client expected outcomes for all design disciplines at all stages of the project.

Comprehensive & Integrated Design Process Solutions

Schemmer’s process breaks down disciplinary boundaries and requires the entire project team to think “big picture.” We work together to provide responsible solutions for the entire building and all of its systems together. Our team utilizes the benefits of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to effectively communicate during the design process. We provide deliverables that not only enable our clients to see design come to life with 3D imagery, but also help the entire design team better communicate, understand and manage the project as it evolves. Through the use of Autodesk Revit as our primary BIM software, we design using intelligent, 3D and parametric object-based models.

Schemmer Comprehensive Design Solutions

These models are decision-making tools. Infraworks provides a great platform for early design, analysis and geospatial planning. Insight provides a way to interact with the energy model and analyze the building’s performance. Our visualization process utilizes the Enscape real-time rendering plug-in for easy client access to panoramic and virtual reality scenes of their project. The virtual reality experience of a project includes the ability to see what the space will feel like, including demonstration of acoustic performance.

Our architects, structural, mechanical, electrical and civil engineers have developed rigorous in-house standards for how models are linked and how templates control graphic consistency.

As design progresses, the Revit model becomes a building systems conflict resolution resource, a powerful quality assurance tool. Potential physical conflicts of building systems and elements are visualized in 3D for resolution far ahead of any actual work being bid or constructed. For more complex projects, we combine Revit with Navisworks to diagram and report conflicts in greater detail.

Delivering Quality and Value

This process, coupled with our fully-adhered QA/QC program, delivers quality construction documents that are second to none. The realized benefits are enormous with architecture and engineering under the same roof, with the shared goal of generating seamless design that doesn’t bother with limiting ideas by discipline, but rather seeks to find the best solution specific to each client and project.

Schemmer's Integrated Design Process will:

  • save time
  • improve quality
  • offer our clients the best value for their investment

We are so confident in our process that we communicate it in our tagline – Design with Purpose. Build with Confidence.

Schemmer - Design with Purpose. Build with Confidence.

Schemmer continues to study and implement renewable energies when possible. If energy costs rise or regulations require lower consumption, we’ll be ready. It is our responsibility to identify where we can help clients save energy, conserve the natural environment and look for sustainable solutions.
