Schemmer’s Michael Sinclair, AIA, Shareholder, was quoted in the November 27, 2020 issue of the Midlands Business Journal. The article, "Health care, societal shifts drive consistent demand for professionals in the A/E/C space," discusses what the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Nebraska is seeing with current hiring trends in the architecture industry.

High Demand for Qualified Architects

Michael Sinclair, SchemmerSinclair, the AIA Nebraska Chapter President, said there has been a high demand for qualified architects for quite some time.

He adds, "Yet, there is an underlying hesitancy to over-hire at this point in time with as many economic uncertainties as there are. Many firms prefer to hire for the long term, in lieu of following current market trends."

Sinclair points out that due to the market-oriented demand for jobs, there is a lot of demand for municipal, government and public projects.

"So, firms that have diversified their focus seem to be faring quite well currently," he said.

There is also an increase in facility assessment and 3D building scans (read our blog post on this here).

Sinclair notes, "This requires an extensive knowledge in building systems and assemblies, maintenance procedures and protocols, and the latest in scanning technology and software."

AIA Nebraska's members can access a network of dialogue on market trends and educational opportunities. Wellness and well-being are gaining prominence in early design conversations. Sinclair also mentions evidence-based design will start to gain prominence and justify research as an important phase to nearly every design project.
