The McCook YMCA is undergoing an expansion and renovation focused on better supporting the day-to-day needs of the community. The work centers on improving how the facility functions, adding space where it’s needed most, and creating flexible areas that can be used by members of all ages.

Schemmer provided concept and final design services for the project. Key improvements include a larger gymnasium, a new indoor walking track for year-round use, and a regulation-length swimming pool that supports both community programs and school competitions. The project also includes updated fitness and wellness areas, administrative spaces, and new community rooms designed for everyday use.

Input from YMCA members, donors, and leadership helped shape the direction of the project. One major outcome of that collaboration is the full replacement of the original pool, an important upgrade for local aquatics programs and swim meets. The main entrance will also move to the west lower level, improving access and creating a clearer, more welcoming arrival experience.

Once complete, the updated YMCA will better support fitness, wellness, and community activities while continuing its role as a familiar gathering place for McCook residents.
