The Cathedral of the Risen Christ Parish has launched the Forward in Faith and Excellence Campaign to strengthen both its spiritual foundation and educational mission. With close ties to Pius X High School, this campaign is about more than new buildings. It is about creating spaces that bring people together to learn, worship, and grow in faith.

Schemmer is proud to partner with the Cathedral to lead the design efforts for this transformational initiative. The improvements have been planned as part of one cohesive vision that enhances accessibility, safety, and growth while honoring the Cathedral’s long-standing role in faith-based education.

Project Components

1. Campus Accessibility and Safety (Church)
Accessibility has been one of the most pressing needs identified by the parish. Schemmer has designed new ADA-compliant pathways and railings to make the campus safer and easier to navigate. Replacing worn concrete and adding accessible routes ensures that every parishioner can move freely and take part in worship and community gatherings. The project also includes new outdoor areas for fellowship after Mass and parish events.

2. Alumni Way Secure Entry Vestibule (School)
Building on the success of the original Alumni Way concept introduced in 2017, Schemmer has designed a new secure entry vestibule for Cathedral School. The updated main entrance improves safety while giving the school a more welcoming, modern appearance. Inside, new administrative offices, a conference room, and an additional classroom make the building more functional and better suited to the needs of students, staff, and visitors.

3. Preschool and Fine Arts Addition (School)
A major highlight of the campaign is a 9,000-square-foot addition that expands the school’s capacity and creativity. The new space brings preschool classrooms, previously housed in a separate building, into a connected, secure area. It also creates a new home for the fine arts program, with updated spaces for art, music, and the library. The design also enhances the school’s award-winning Nature Explore Classroom, offering more opportunities for hands-on learning outdoors.

4. Playground and Green Space Improvements (Church and School)
To better serve families, the project adds new green space and reconfigures play areas. Relocating basketball hoops and improving playground surfaces will make the area safer and more enjoyable for recess, after-school activities, and family gatherings. These updates support the Cathedral’s commitment to balancing faith, learning, and community.

Design Approach

Schemmer has approached each part of the project with care and collaboration, working closely with parish leaders and school staff to ensure the improvements meet both immediate and long-term goals. Every detail is designed to enhance function and aesthetics while keeping the Cathedral’s mission and sense of community at the heart of the plan.
