Project Details
Schemmer completed a master plan, existing buildings' analysis and preliminary designs for improvements to the Children’s Square U.S.A. 10-acre campus in Council Bluffs. The 130-year-old institution, which serves the needs of children, youth and families, has ever-evolving and expanding needs for the treatment and education of children and adolescents experiencing serious emotional disorders.
The outcome led to the design of a new Residential Treatment Unit building. The building is designed as three connected residential cottages. The students live in the cottages, which provide safe environments and teach life skills. The common area, which connects the cottages, includes instructional, activity and counseling spaces. Schemmer provided Master Planning, Architectural Design, Interior Design, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering services.
