10.16-Mile Interstate Reconstruction & Rest Area Development

Strong infrastructure keeps communities connected and few roads are as vital to Nebraska as Interstate 80. That’s why the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s reconstruction project through Keith County was a key investment in long-term mobility, and why Schemmer is proud to play a role in delivering it.

The project covered more than 10 miles of I-80, beginning 1.76 miles west of the Brule Interchange and extending nearly to the Ogallala Interchange. The work included the full reconstruction of the Brule Interchange ramps, construction of a new safety rest area for eastbound travelers, and removal of the aging Ogallala Rest Area.

In addition, the project resurfaced 1.10 miles of L-51A, improving the connection from the I-80 interchange north to US 30 in Brule.

Throughout construction, crossovers were used to keep traffic moving safely, and enhancements were made to the four-lane roadway and shoulders to support better durability and performance.

Today, the improved corridor offers travelers a safer, smoother route and positions the region for future growth. With a focus on quality, safety, and smart planning, Schemmer continues to help shape transportation systems that serve people today and prepare for tomorrow.
