Lakeside Auto Recyclers is a third-generation, family-owned business located in Carter Lake, Iowa that has served the Omaha and Council Bluffs area for more than 40 years. When Lakeside decided to expand and enhance their recycling operations with new equipment and buildings, Hawkins Construction was retained by Lakeside, and Schemmer was an obvious fit as a design partner for the Team. The project entailed the deep foundation design for a new metal shredder and the design of four accessory buildings consisting of a shredder control building, a fluid disposal building, a fine metals sorting building, and an office/operations building. Schemmer worked hand-in-hand with Lakeside and the City to ensure compliance with all of the planning and zoning requirements of Carter Lake. Schemmer also worked closely with Lakeside’s multiple equipment vendors to coordinate the design of the buildings with the equipment to provide maximum efficiency of use.
