Project Details
The first level of the historic Mutual of Omaha building, located at 33rd and Farnam, was remodeled by Schemmer to provide an additional 15,000 SF of space for Mutual of Omaha Bank offices. The project included mechanical, electrical, life safety and ADA upgrades for all floors except the basement level. The renovation of 64,790 square feet on levels two and four of the complex included private offices, open cubicle work stations and three large conference rooms/media areas with an adjacent employee break area for 13 different departments within the ‘administrative function’ of Nebraska Medicine (formerly The Nebraska Medical Center) support staff being relocated from the main campus to the Mutual of Omaha Campus.
Schemmer worked closely with the staff of Nebraska Medicine to create an inviting new space for them. The design effort included field measuring the floor areas to verify original construction features while assuring new design elements fit within the exterior perimeter envelope. Wheelchair access to the floors, as well as life safety egress capabilities, were studied and modifications implemented where necessary. It was important for the support staff to be comfortable in their new space and still feel as though they were part of the Nebraska Medicine team. The goal was to make the facility look timeless, provide a corporate image and an edgy flare. The client and designer provided Nebraska Medicine support staff with a welcoming new environment that was both aesthetically pleasing and stimulating.
