Project Details
Schemmer was selected by Omaha Public Schools (OPS) to design the renovation of Indian Hill Elementary School. The work includes fire, life safety, security and technology upgrades. Capital improvements include providing central air conditioning to the entire facility. Key items to be addressed include the following:
• Fire alarm system replacement
• Security motion sensor installation
• Emergency lighting replacement
• Fire sprinkler system installation
• Video intercom system installation
• Light fixture replacement/upgrades
• Damaged carpet replacement
• Aluminum window replacement
• Card key access control system
• Safe area construction
• Central air conditioning
• Media retrieval system installation
• Exterior window and door replacement
• Interior door and hardware replacement
• Electrical switchgear replacement
Water source heat pumps were installed to provide approximately 3,800 MBH heating and 300 ton cooling throughout the building. A closet at each classroom/zone was constructed to provide corridor access at standing level to maintain the heat pumps. The project included 42 vertical (20 ton), closet-mounted units, two horizontal (20 ton) units, suspended above ceilings and two rooftop (six ton) units for the gymnasium. Schemmer's approach considered phasing during construction to allow the school to remain occupied during construction.
