Schemmer is proud to partner with the City of York on the design and development of New Fire Station No. 1, a modern, 25,000-square-foot facility built to better serve the community and support the York Fire Department’s critical mission.
From the very beginning, Schemmer worked closely with city leaders and fire personnel to understand their needs—starting with a thorough assessment of the current station and the services required moving forward. Our team provided full-service support including architecture, planning, project management, and engineering across multiple disciplines: civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical. By keeping all of these services under one roof, we helped streamline communication and simplify the process from concept through construction.
Some of the standout features include:
A large, four-door apparatus bay (125′ x 100′)
Offices and a conference room
Dormitories, restrooms, and a day room
A watch room, kitchen, dining area, and laundry space
A special display area to celebrate the department’s history
On-site parking for 30 vehicles
The station was designed to meet current ABA accessibility standards and includes sustainable elements that promote energy efficiency and long-term value.
Why it matters:
This project is more than just a new building—it’s an investment in public safety and the future of York. The new station will improve emergency response times, create a better working environment for firefighters, and offer space for public education and outreach. It’s designed to grow with the community and support the department’s mission for years to come.
Schemmer is honored to be a part of this important project, helping York build a stronger, safer future.
