David brings more than 45 years of architectural experience, with a career that includes some of the country’s most recognizable stadiums, arenas, conference centers, and other public gathering spaces. He specializes in public assembly venues, where architecture has the opportunity to do more than accommodate a crowd. It can create a place that reflects the character of a community and becomes part of its identity.

Throughout his career, David has developed a particular strength for guiding complex projects with many voices at the table. He believes successful design starts by involving the right stakeholders early, listening carefully, and building consensus around solutions that serve both the people who use a space and the community around it.

Among the notable projects of his career is PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. More than 25 years after its opening, the ballpark continues to be recognized for its fan experience and its connection to downtown Pittsburgh. For David, that longevity reflects a philosophy that continues to guide his work throughout his career: a building should be right for its place, not simply its time.

A graduate of Kansas State University, David is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Outside of architecture, his creative interests extend to photography, writing and comedy. For 28 years, he wrote sketches and songs for the Kansas Public Radio comedy program Right Between the Ears. These days, he and his wife, Theresa, enjoy traveling, which also gives David plenty of opportunities to put his admittedly oversized camera collection to use.
