Elena brings more than a decade of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on designing commercial, industrial, educational, and multi-family facilities across 18 states. She is licensed in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Idaho, and is currently based in Denver, where she is spearheading Schemmer’s expansion into the mountain region.

Her work is centered on delivering thoughtful, resilient design solutions that perform well in a variety of environments. She brings a practical, solutions-focused mindset to each project, helping teams navigate challenges and move forward with confidence.

Elena’s path into engineering started with a love of physics. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College before completing her Master’s in Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. As a kid, she dreamed of designing roller coasters, but eventually decided buildings were a better fit. They are just as impressive and ideally do not make people scream.

She has also spent time coaching high school and club volleyball, helping lead teams to the Girls Junior National Championships twice. Outside of work, Elena enjoys climbing mountains and chasing summit views that make the effort worthwhile. She will happily ride any roller coaster you put in front of her, but prefers her own designs to stay firmly on the ground.
