Schemmer is proud to share that Tom Svoboda, PE, CEM, Senior Project Manager and Government Market Leader, has been inducted as a Fellow in the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). This recognition represents one of the organization’s highest honors and reflects Tom’s long-standing leadership and contributions to the engineering profession.

Founded in 1920, the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) connects professionals from architecture, engineering, construction, and environmental disciplines across both the public and private sectors. The organization supports collaboration between industry and government while promoting innovation, professional development, and infrastructure readiness that serves national security and communities across the country.

What it Means to be a SAME Fellow

SAME Fellow status is a peer-recognized distinction awarded to members who demonstrate sustained leadership, professional excellence, and meaningful service to the organization and the industry. Fellows are recognized not only for technical accomplishments but also for mentoring others, strengthening partnerships, and helping shape the future of military engineering and infrastructure delivery.

For Tom, the honor reflects decades of commitment to both the profession and the SAME community.

A Career Defined by Leadership and Impact

Tom brings more than 36 years of engineering design and project management experience to his role at Schemmer, including a distinguished 20-year career as an Air Force Engineering Officer followed by over fifteen years as an engineering consultant. His expertise spans the full project life cycle, from master planning and energy audits to design, construction, and operations, with a focus on delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions for complex government and institutional projects.

Throughout his career, Tom has led multidisciplinary teams across military, aviation, healthcare, education, and central utility plant sectors.

A Professional Engineer in Nebraska and Illinois and a Certified Energy Manager, Tom is known for his disciplined approach to quality control, contract management, and client collaboration. He consistently guides projects from concept through completion while meeting demanding regulatory and performance standards.

Service Beyond the Project

Tom’s recognition as a SAME Fellow also reflects his commitment to leadership and service within the profession. He serves as a Post Vice President for Leadership and Mentoring and contributes to industry advancement through involvement with ASHRAE and the Nebraska Business Development Center’s APEX Accelerator Advisory Board.

His academic background includes a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
