Early beginnings. When I was in high school, I saw a magazine in a bookstore featuring Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater on the cover. That imagery, along with the article about the history of the building, inspired me to become an architect; Fallingwater is still one of my favorite designs. Prior to that, I really enjoyed a middle school drafting class, which led to more drafting classes in high school. There, I had the opportunity to participate in a high ability learning program that organized visits to architecture firms and participation in special architectural projects, which increased my interest in design even more.
The summer before my last year of architecture school, I participated in a study abroad program where we had instructor lead classes/tours through London and Rome. In addition, my travels that summer also included visits to Paris, Lyon, Barcelona, Florence and Athens. It was an exciting and challenging adventure both academically and personally.
Role as an architect. I recently joined Schemmer as Healthcare Market Leader, overseeing all Healthcare-related projects, and I am looking forward to working with all of our healthcare clients. I am determined to leave a mark on the healthcare environment by providing patients and their families comfort, solace, inspiration and healing through quality design. Leading healthcare clients through the process of planning and completing their projects successfully, is the most rewarding part about my job. It gives me great personal satisfaction to help organizations and individuals achieve their goals.
I am passionate about learning new things and applying that knowledge to create new possibilities. One of my strengths is using my experiences to find creative solutions to complex problems. I enjoy the challenge and feeling of accomplishment that comes from collaborating, as well as leading a diverse group of people through all steps necessary towards project completion.
Family life. Raising three incredible kids is one of the greatest achievements of my life. My family and I enjoy spending time together whether it be hanging out at home or taking vacations. This year, we went to visit my brother in Utah on our way to the Grand Canyon.
Hobbies. Learning about leadership, technology and design always fascinates me, however, outside of work, I enjoy bike riding, golfing, reading, evening walks with my wife and watching movies. I even built a home theater in my basement that includes a modified computer where my entire family can enjoy 3D movies on an eight-foot screen.
Fun Fact. In the past, some have said I looked like Kevin Costner or Alan Rickman, which I was fine with until Mr. Rickman got the role of Professor Snape in Harry Potter. My kids thought the comparison was hilarious! Six movies and 10 years later, I finally got a break from the jokes.
