Schemmer attends Iowa Army National Guard Vehicle Maintenance Instructional Facility Ribbon Cutting
Schemmer’s Seth Shannon, AIA, attended the Iowa Army National Guard’s ribbon cutting ceremony on May 12, 2021. The ceremony celebrated the opening of the new road and the completion of a project that began 20 years ago.
Project aims to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion
NDOT published a rendering designed by Schemmer, showing how the completed road will work. Project leaders said the goal is to streamline truck traffic heading to major Fremont plants and factories while letting other drivers get to where they need to go safely.
Ricketts spoke to the crowd gathered on the new roundabout serving Downing Streets.
“I think it’s really an exciting project and I’m so pleased to see how involved the Fremont community has been in this,” he said.
Facilitating future economic growth in the area
He commended city government, Dodge County and major key employers in the area for investing the majority of the $62 million needed for the project.
“Those are the folks who are going to be benefitting from this, so this is a really innovative way that shows great community involvement that is a model for the rest of the state,” Ricketts said. “That’s why I think this is the type of model we should be looking at, and not going down the road of bonding.”
