Schemmer attended the Iowa West Field House Pickleball Club Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 25th.This project was a 16,000 SF tenant improvement project for the Iowa West Foundation in previously vacant bays of the Iowa West Fieldhouse in Council Bluffs. The existing facility already houses several basketball and volleyball courts. This project transformed the vacant bays into an indoor Pickleball facility with six courts including a specialized sports floor and court divider nets.
Iowa West Pickleball Space Also Includes:
- reception
- restroom facilities
- storage
- utility areas
Schemmer also provided mechanical and electrical engineering work to utilize the existing HVAC units and allow all utilities to be separately metered from the existing facility.
All About Pickleball
The new space will be used by the Council Bluffs Area Pickleball Club. Many of whom attended the ceremony and put their skills to use on the new courts.
According to USAPA Pickleball, it is a paddle sport for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Combining many elements of:
- tennis
- badminton
- ping-pong
Pickleball is said to have been invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, close to Seattle, Washington.
