One of those key leaders is Greg Houston, our Manager of Architecture in Denver, CO. With 25+ years of experience, Greg isn’t just designing buildings—he’s shaping the future of sustainable architecture in Colorado.
A Career Built on Innovation and Leadership
Greg’s journey in architecture is as diverse as it is impressive. Over the years, he’s worked on a wide range of projects, from commercial and mixed-use developments to multi-family, industrial, and hospitality spaces. His ability to blend creativity, technical expertise, and practical problem-solving makes him a key player in Schemmer’s expansion into Denver.
“I’ve been in the architecture industry for about 25 years,” Greg explains. “I worked for a church architecture firm, before starting my own practice, which I ran for 15 years.”
That hands-on experience has given Greg a deep understanding of design, project management, and client collaboration, allowing him to lead projects that not only meet expectations but exceed them.
A Leader Who Thrives on Problem-Solving
Greg is someone who embraces challenges, seeing them as opportunities to create better, smarter, and more efficient design solutions.
“I love working through challenges—whether it’s with my team, a project, or a client,” he says. “Challenges aren’t roadblocks; they’re just problems that need the right solution.”
Beyond his own work, Greg is passionate about mentorship and leadership. As an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado and the University of Denver, he’s not just teaching the next generation of architects and engineers—he’s guiding and inspiring them.
“I want to be an effective communicator for clients, but more than that, I want to be an effective leader for young architects and engineers,” he shares.
His commitment to mentorship, problem-solving, and leadership is a big part of what makes him such an asset to both Schemmer and the architecture community.

Greg’s connection to Denver goes beyond his work—he’s invested in the city’s growth and evolution. He understands the importance of sustainability and energy-efficient design, and he’s excited to help establish Schemmer as a leader in this space.
“One of the things I really enjoy is being involved in Denver’s architectural landscape,” he says. “Colorado is all about sustainability and smart design, and Schemmer is well-positioned to contribute to that movement.”
Greg sees Schemmer’s growing presence in Denver as a chance to make a meaningful impact—not just in the buildings that go up, but in the communities they serve.
“Building relationships with clients and making a name for Schemmer in the Denver market is something I’m truly excited about.”
Beyond Architecture: A Passion for Family and Sports
When he’s not leading projects, teaching, or problem-solving, Greg is spending time with the people who matter most—his family.
“My biggest passion outside of work is my family,” he says. “I’m also really into sports—skiing, lacrosse, volleyball—and I try to stay active, whether it’s with my wife, my kids, or just getting outside.”
His ability to balance professional excellence with personal fulfillment is what makes Greg not just a great architect, but a great leader.
