Get To Know Joe
Joe Poole is the Assistant Survey Manager of the Omaha, NE Survey Team. He has 12 years of land surveying experience and is currently a Surveyor in Training for his license.
Joe joined Schemmer in 2020 as a Survey Crew Chief and was promoted to Assistant Survey Manager in 2023.
"Primarily my focus has been our QA/QC (quality assurance/quality control) procedures and being able to share my knowledge of field experience with our crews," he said.
Teaching and sharing his experience with others is one of his passions at work. "We have some younger people that are willing to learn and excited to learn. So I'm passionate about teaching them the trade."
Outside of work, Joe is a Huskers Football fan and enjoys gardening. He also has 3 young boys. "They take up most of my time," he said with a smile and a laugh.
When asked what advice he would give to someone just coming into the career field, he gave a simple answer: ask questions.
"When I was a young surveyor, there were probably some times when I asked questions at the wrong time, but don't be afraid to ask questions because that's how you learn. You learn from doing, but you also have to have a mentor or somebody that you can bounce ideas off of," he said.
Joe usually starts his workday around 7:00am where he helps get the field crews caught up on the plans of the day. "After that, I may be working on some proposals or getting a file folder ready for an upcoming job. I may be taking phone calls from clients and answering any questions they have. After the crews get out, it could be anything, really."
Joe says his favorite part of his job is interacting with our clients. "We're a client-driven business. For them to be satisfied and happy with our product is something that I really enjoy."
