Schemmer Attends Columbian Elementary Groundbreaking

Schemmer’s Terry Wood, AIA, LEED AP, Project Manager, and Molly Macklin, AIA, attended the Columbian Elementary groundbreaking ceremony for Omaha Public School’s (OPS).

Columbian Elementary students, staff, parents, community and guests attended the ceremony which officially kicked off Columbian's replacement school project for a new, 67,560 SF school. Principal Nanette Beller opened the ceremony and Columbian Elementary student’s proudly sang "My School" before the Presentation of Colors by Burke High's JROTC Color Guard. The students then performed the Pledge of Allegiance.

Superintendent, Mark Evans; OPS Board Member, Matt Scanlan; City Councilman, Brinker Harding, as well as representatives from Hausmann Construction and Jacobs Engineering Group were on hand for the ceremony.

Schemmer designed a complete replacement school for Columbian Elementary. The current building will be replaced with a new 450-student capacity school on the existing site. The project is estimated to cost $13.6 million.
