Dan Kerns Quoted in Midlands Business Journal 2018 | November 16, 2018
“Rising costs of construction materials making impact on local design work”
Schemmer’s Dan Kerns, AIA, was featured in the November 16, 2018 edition of the Midlands Business Journal, contributing to the conversation on the rising costs of construction materials and its impact on design work.
Construction costs are up in the midlands and the situation is challenging area firms to develop creative ways to deliver on a budget.
Kerns discussed how Schemmer's broad-based in-house expertise helps keep projects moving efficiently.
"As a full-service architecture and engineering firm, we offer all disciplines in-house. Because everyone is together, we can collaborate much easier to ensure project success," he said.
A flattening out of construction costs is anticipated over the next 12 to 24 months, which may spur even more growth in the market.
"Firms that are positioned well will need to make decisions regarding staffing to handle the workload," Kerns said. "I also see fees remaining competitive as the local market should have enough A&E firms to accommodate the anticipated growth in the development market."
