Schemmer's Michael Sinclair, AIA, and Nick May, Assoc. AIA, made SMART use of space at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL)'s College of Architecture PARK(ing) DAY.
PARK(ing) DAY is an annual global event that falls on the third Friday of September. Citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform parking stalls into temporary public places. The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!
UNL teams design, fabricate and install their one-day temporary exhibit using one parking stall. The student exhibits are located around UNL’s city campus. Schemmer’s Sinclair and May are taking advantage of the mobile architectural office at PARK(ing) DAY in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Lincoln exhibit. Sinclair serves as the AIA Lincoln Chapter President and May is a member of the Chapter.
