Sioux Falls Family YMCA Creates Scholarship in Memory of Schemmer's Katie Ashmore
The Sioux Falls Family YMCA held its 20th annual "Fore the Kids" Golf Classic which raises money to send kids to camp, but this year also honored Katie Ashmore.
Ashmore worked with Schemmer in our Business Development Department doing what she did best: building relationships. She was also a board member and volunteer at the Sioux Falls YMCA.
Katie was especially passionate about one of the YMCA's programs: The YMCA Leif Ericson Day Camp. She made it her goal to make sure the cost would never keep a kid from camp and worked closely with families to get their kids into camp when they wanted to go.
Katie's work continues today as the YMCA has announced the Katie Ashmore Scholarship Fund which directly raises funds to send kids to camp. Their goal was $15,000 and that goal has been surpassed as of two weeks ago and continues to grow.
"One of Schemmer's Core Values is 'Build Community.' Katie demonstrated this value both at work and in the community she served. The positive impact of her efforts will continue for many years to come. She is loved and missed by all who knew her," said Schemmer President Steve Kathol.
