The Post Lofts | Lincoln, Nebraska
The Post Lofts is a 15,500 SF mixed-use urban rehabilitation project located at 14th and P Streets in Lincoln. Three early 1900s buildings were joined together with:
- updated infrastructure
- new floor and roof structure
- modern utilities
- façade restoration
- historically-accurate window replacement
ADAPTIVE REUSE WITH URBAN LIVING AND ENERGIZED STREET-SCAPE
Prior to the rehabilitation project, the building was home to the well-known local store, Post & Nickle which opened in 1966. The area continues to cater to Lincoln's residents and visitors with modern dwellings and contemporary retail.
BEFORE
AFTER
In the reimagined space, the street level houses a bank and two retailers. On the upper levels, seven living units are incorporated into the historic structure, including strategically located loft spaces and a rooftop community deck. Historic murals and materials are exposed throughout the project both in the public and private spaces.
"During design and demolition, original building-scale advertising murals were discovered under plastered walls. The murals quickly became an important design element and serve as a main feature in many of the living space. Additionally, salvaged lumber serves as stair treads and wall details, while exposed brick is featured throughout the project."
- Peter Hind, AIA, LEED AP - Project Manager
Two of the seven living units are listed on Airbnb providing short-term housing opportunities in Lincoln. Amenities in the fully furnished loft include a full kitchen, laundry, free WIFI and a rooftop deck and garden, all in the heart of downtown, Lincoln, Nebraska.
